Each year Bonclarken welcomes young people to apply for summer jobs at Bonclarken. Working as part of Bonclarken summer staff creates special memories and lifelong friendships!
Applicant Information:

- Applicants must be 18 years or older to live in Bonclarken housing.
- New applicants must provide 2 references.
Food Service – Food services summer staff members are responsible for the preparation of meals for all guests who dine with us, as well as maintaining cleanliness of the dining room, kitchen, and Nibble Nook areas.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Keeping public use areas such as walkways and entryways clean and welcoming
- Preparation of vegetables, meats, etc. for salad bars and hot food bars
- Preparation of dining room before meal service periods
- Cleaning of dining room and kitchen area following meal service periods
- Washing all pots, pans, serving items, plates, glasses, and silverware
- Operation of snack shop areas during some meal service times and regular hours to include cash deposits and record keeping
- Assisting with greeting guests at dining room during meal hours
- Must be 14 years of age or older; minors will be scheduled according to NCDOL Youth Employment Rules
Gift Shop/Nibble Nook Attendant – The Gift Shop/Nibble Nook Attendant is responsible for the daily operations of the Bonclarken Gift Shop and Nibble Nook snack bar.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Gift Shop:
- Serving guests promptly, efficiently, and courteously
- Balancing register tills at the end of day and making the daily deposit to the Finance Department
- Meeting guest needs during his/her visit to the Gift Shop
- Maintaining gift shop inventory, stocking shelves and ensuring cleanliness of work and storage areas
- Must be 16 years of age or older due to hours and nature of work; minors will be scheduled according to NCDOL Youth Employment Rules
- Nibble Nook:
- Taking guest orders promptly, efficiently, and courteously
- Accepting payment from guests using computerized cash register system
- Checking food items to ensure quality and safety standards are met
- Keeping the preparation and serving areas clean, sanitary, and safe
- Completing inventory sheets, noting supplies that need to be replenished
- Balancing register tills at the end of day and making the daily deposit to the Finance Department
- Must be 16 years of age or older due to hours and nature of work; minors will be scheduled according to NCDOL Youth Employment Rules
Guest Services – Guest services summer staff members are responsible for the preparation and cleaning of all meeting space and guest rooms. It is the goal of this department to exceed the expectations of our guests regarding these services.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Cleaning and preparation of housing facilities including bedroom and bath areas
- Setting up and cleaning meeting rooms
- Keeping public use areas such as walkways and entryways clean and welcoming
- Responding courteously and effectively to guest needs and questions
- Must be 14 years of age or older; minors will be scheduled according to NCDOL Youth Employment Rules
Maintenance – Maintenance summer staff are responsible for routine handyman repairs, preventive maintenance, and small work projects under the supervision of senior staff. Our group of maintenance staff perform in a team-like manner and are constantly improving our services.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Landscaping, painting, vehicle maintenance/repair, plumbing, and many other duties surrounding the improvement of our campus
- Maintenance summer staff must be able to lift 80lb, work on ladders, operate small equipment, and be a licensed driver
- Must be 18 years of age or older due to the nature of the job
Office – Office staff members are responsible for front desk hospitality and clerical work supporting conference center operations.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Welcoming guests and handling guest needs and questions at the front desk
- Assisting with conference registration
- Receiving and recording guest payments
Photography/Media – Photography/Media staff captures summer moments in images and video and creates social media and marketing posts. This position also includes some hours working as front desk staff. A portfolio of original work is a requirement to be considered for this position.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Taking high-quality photographs and video of conference center activities
- Editing and organizing photos and video
- Working with the digital marketing team to create promotional materials and social media posts.
- Periodically assisting front desk staff to perform duties described under the Office staff description.
Recreation – The recreation and programming department is responsible for all adventure and waterfront activities.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Providing life guarding and first aid at lake and pool during
- Facilitating all adventure elements including Zip lines, Climbing Tower, Leap of Faith, Dangle Duo and Cat Climb
- Using good judgment while facilitating activities in order to provide safe environment
- Encouraging guests of all skill levels in a kind and courteous manner
**Recreation staff must be lifeguard/1st Aid & AED certified through the American Red Cross. Recreation staff who are not certified will be provided with the opportunity to obtain their certification during the recreation staff training period at the beginning of the summer.
**Recreation staff must successfully complete ropes training during the recreation staff training period at the beginning of the summer.
**Recreation staff must be at least 18 years old for ropes training and 16 for lifeguarding; minors will be scheduled according to NCDOL Youth Employment Rules
